ADVANCED OCCLUSION & WAX-UP
Occlusion plays a pivotal role in our day to day practice. Not only is it important that occlusion is understood but also important that it is applied to the dentistry we preform. The aim of this course is ensure that dentists understand how occlusal concepts apply to everyday dentistry in order to make it predictable, problem solve and increase the longevity of restorations. Upon completion of the course, delegates will have the knowledge to plan complex treatments with the aid of a facebow, articulator and diagnostic wax ups. Delegates will also be taught anterior and posterior wax up techniques paying close attention to anatomy.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the occlusion principles that govern the success of restorations
- Understand the normal static and dynamic determinants of occlusion and how they apply to everyday clinical practice
- Understand the challenges that complex occlusal patterns can pose such as AOB, Cross bites, last tooth in the arch syndrome, and how to manage these
- Understand how pathological wear can lead to rapid occlusal change and how to manage the occlusal aspects of repairing this wear, such as increases in occlusal vertical dimension (OVD)
- Understand how to accurately assess & record occlusion and treat complex occlusal cases
- Avoid occlusal problems – these are very broad and can be vague but the risks of these happening can be detected
- Understand how to assess for parafunction & manage occlusal force distribution on restorations
Extra-oral assessment:
- Assessment of the Temporomandibular joint
- Assessment of the muscles of mastication and identification of possible parafunction
Intra-oral Assessment:
- Assessment and recording of occlusal patterns
